You can sense the bygone era in this home that has been decorated in the 1950s’ idyllic style. The museum home is in the distinctive wooden house district of Kolikkoinmäki, where the couplet writer and composer Lauri Jauhiainen and Erkki Junkkarinen, a singer with a great voice, among others spent their childhood.

Phases of the museum house

In 1924, Olli Pöyhönen bought a 1,100 m² plot of land from Vihtori Vehniäinen and built a house, which had a room with a brick oven and a bedroom, from the logs of the Kerkonkoski dairy.

The tile stove room, hallway and double rooms with porches were built later. The additional rooms were rented out. The room built next to the room with a brick oven was first kept as cold storage space. In 1932, Pekka Muurinen had a brick oven laid in that room and rented it out. The landlord lived in the room with a brick oven and the bedroom.
